Shaping the Future of Tinnitus Research and Care
The Tinnitus Zentrum Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the German Foundation Tinnitus & Hearing Charité are jointly organising the 20th Tinnitus Research Initiative (TRI) Conference 2026. From 16 - 18 September 2026, hundreds of world-leading tinnitus experts will gather at Campus Charité Mitte to share the latest in research, diagnosis and treatment of tinnitus.
Although tinnitus is a widespread disease in the 21st century, it still can claim to be one of the least known. Estimates suggest that more than 1,5 million people are affected by chronic tinnitus in Germany alone.
Anyone can acquire tinnitus, regardless of age, gender and profession. The disease is frequently caused by hearing loss, but also by noise, neurological disorders, tension in the neck or cervical spine, as well as dental and jaw problems, amongst others. Tinnitus can lead to a significant reduction in quality of life. Sleep and concentration disorders, as well as distress, depression and anxiety, may occur as a consequence.
Compared to the large number of cases, the amount of resources spent on research and science is still disproportionately small. The interdisciplinary exchange of knowledge between ENT, neurology, audiology and psychology within the context of the TRI2026 will help to better understand how tinnitus originates in order to alleviate the symptoms and, in the future find a cure for it.
